Spadehandles

Regional differences

Spade handles may differ depending on the region and habit. Mostly used is the T-handle of crank handle, but in certain regions also the D-handles (especially in the Waasland region and the West of Belgium) and the knob-handle (Belgian Limburg and most of France).

Wooden handle

Good spade handles are made of straight-veined ash. An additional advantage is the varnishing of the handle. This makes the handle smoother and reduces the effects of moisture from rain and sweat on the handle.

Fiber handle

Fiber handles for spades can be completely solid, may consist of a glass fiber core with a plastic coating or may be glass-fiber reinforced.
